The 1832 Enlisted Greatcoat (shown on the enlargement only) is Sky Blue, double breasted with 10 button front and 9 small buttons close the cape. Cape extended to the upper edge of the cuff. Stand up collar. Heavy cotton half lining. Size adjustment belts with a single button on the back. The standing collar has a bit of stiffening in it to keep it from sagging. Two Hook and Eyes close the collar to help keep out the wind and snow. Bottom edge of the coat is raw (not hemmed) as per original coats.
The 1841 Uniform Regulations call for the coat to be … “Blue Grey mixture" (called Cadet Grey today and shown at left) with 12 button front and 12 button cape. A few coats in Medium Grey wool were also made to the 1841 Pattern. Other details of both coats are the same.
