In 1864, Congress authorized placing Officers and Enlisted that were no longer able to serve in the field in a special branch called Veteran Reserve Corps. The uniform for officer's is shown at left. The uniform consists of a frockcoat and trousers in Sky Blue wool. Collar and cuffs on the coat are dark blue velvet. The tail pocket flaps are sky blue wool. Lining of the coat is black cotton, sleeve lining is natural colored cotton. Cuffs are functional and have three small Eagle buttons. The General Service button is used. A dark blue kepi or forage cap would be worn with this uniform.
Trousers are the Foot pattern in Sky Blue wool also. Side seam pockets are featured and on the outseam two stripes of 1/2" dark blue wool cloth (not velvet) with a 3/8" window of sky blue between the stripes. Eleven tin buttons are supplied with these trousers. Scroll down to order these.
