In 1846, the Army authorized a double breasted frockcoat for Senior grade officers (Majors, Lt Colonels and Colonels). Our coat utilizes the 19 ounce dark blue field service wool with a black cotton body lining and natural cotton sleeve lining. A deluxe wool and lining are available as an upgrade. Fourteen large buttons on the front, and three on the functional split cuffs. Shoulder Boards used are the 1852 size and style in black.
The 2-1/2" functional cuffs close with three small buttons. Collar height is about 2-1/4” without stiffening. Pockets in the folds of the skirt with flaps. Four buttons on the back of the coat. Raw skirt bottom per originals.
Dragoon Officers were to have a unique shoulder rank device exclusive to their branch of service. Called Dragoon Officer Shoulder "Boards" in the Regulations, they are usually called a Shoulder Scale today. All Dragoon Officer Rank insignia is left loose for the customer to install.
