Senior Officer’s Frockcoat.
In 1846, the Army authorized a double breasted frockcoat
for Senior grade officers (Majors, Lt Colonels and Colonels). Our coat utilizes the 19 ounce
dark blue field service wool with
a black cotton body lining and natural cotton sleeve lining. A deluxe wool and lining are available as options
(please scroll down). Fourteen
large buttons on the front, and three on the functional split cuffs.
The 2-1/2" functional cuffs close with three small
buttons. Collar height is about 2-1/4” without stiffening. Pockets in the folds of the skirt with flaps.
Four buttons on the back of the coat. Raw skirt bottom per
originals. Standard with
Branch of Service letter buttons loose for you to sew on. Specify
Artillery, Infantry, Dragoon or Staff Officer. **Please note
Dragoon Officer's got special Shoulder boards- see details below.

Dragoon
Officers were to have a unique shoulder
rank device exclusive to their branch of service. Called Dragoon
Officer Shoulder
"Boards" in the Regulations, they are usually called a
Shoulder Scale today. There were only two
regiments of Dragoons- the 1st and 2nd. If ordering Dragoon
Officer "Boards" (imported)
remember to choose either the "1" or "2" numeral in the appropriate
choice box below. All Dragoon Officer Rank insignia is left loose for the customer to
install.

sew, but they are not trained in sales.
