A new branch of service was authorized for the Army in 1846– the Mounted Rifles. The trouser adopted (shown at left) was dark blue wool with a 1-1/2” black wool stripe edged with yellow cord piping. This trouser design was authorized for all ranks of officers and enlisted men of the Mounted Rifles branch.
All trousers are fly front with side seam pockets and have the reinforced double seat for riding. Split back with cord tie for adjustment. Pewter buttons are sewn on for double button suspenders.
By Regulations, wool trousers were to be worn from October 1 thru April 30. From May 1 thru September 30, white cotton duck trousers were to be worn.
