
as worn from 1833 to 1851 has a short waist length and narrow sleeves. White cotton duck is used and lined with natural cotton muslin. The 2-1/4" collar closes fully in the front. Pointed cuff of same fabric. The jacket is quite plain- without any decoration of any kind. Two exterior front pockets are horizontal and located at the waistline. Button type Shoulder Tabs (sometimes called Straps) are sewn into the shoulder seams.
Infantry and Artillery Officers jackets have Nine small buttons on the front. Dragoon Officers (shown at left) have Twelve small buttons on the front. Although not specified in the 1841 Uniform Regulations, it was common for Officers in the field to attach Shoulder Boards to these cotton jackets to distinguish their rank from enlisted soldiers.
