The 1841 Uniform Regulations call for the coat to be … “Blue Grey mixture, double breasted, with sleeves, stand up collar, cape to meet and button all the way up the front and reach down to the upper edge of the cuff of the coat.” Our coat is made from Cadet Grey wool (called “Blue Grey mixture” in those days) with a half lining (upper body portion) that is a natural color heavy cotton twill. Twelve large Eagle buttons on the front, twelve on the cape and one on the back adjustment belts. The standing collar has a bit of stiffening in it to keep it from sagging. Two Hook and Eyes close the collar to help keep out the wind and snow. Bottom edge of the coat is raw (not hemmed) as per originals.
