1859 Marine Regulations called for Officers serving in line with marines to wear wool trousers of Sky Blue color (same color as the Army) for Fall, Winter and Spring wear. The French style pockets are featured. The split back with a cord tie adjustment is standard with the belts and buckle adjustment optional. On the Officer's Sky Blue Wool trousers, the 3/16" scarlet welt in the outseam is standard. A deluxe grade of wool is offered to match the quality of the deluxe dark blue wool. Marine Officers Not Serving in line with Marines (Staff Officers)were to wear dark blue trousers with a scarlet welt.
Trousers should be quite loose in the waist and seat area, as this was the style during that period. They also have a 1” higher rise than today’s modern pants. The pant legs are left unhemmed so that you may hem them the length that you wish. Black metal buttons for fly and suspenders are supplied, but not sewn on. The trouser front comes standard with the double buttons on either side for our #1907 Suspenders.
