For many years there were complaints that the Sky Blue color varied too much from dye lot to dye lot. In 1885 in an effort to get less dye lot color variation, the Army changed the “old standard” sky blue wool (still left over from the Civil War era) to a new somewhat darker shade, closer to a Royal Blue, for trousers and enlisted greatcoats.
This greatcoat is made from our quality 20 ounce Medium Blue wool, with detachable cape and colored cape lining to denote branch of service. The coat has a dark blue wool body lining to the waist, cotton sleeve linings and two inside pockets. The US Eagle buttons are supplied but not sewn on. Rank Chevrons may be added to the sleeve of this coat. Click CHEVRONS to see chevron rank.
