'85 Artillery Dresscoat

1885 Enlisted Mounted Dresscoat

#8520 M-1885 ENLISTED MOUNTED SERVICES DRESS COAT for LIGHT ARTILLERY, CAVALRY and SIGNAL SERVICE.

In 1885, the Army Uniform board made minor changes to the 1872 dress coats- the Artillery version is at left. The collar is now the solid branch of service color and the belt loops were dropped. Also, the special trim design on the back of the skirt has been modified somewhat. New Gold Lace Chevrons were adopted for use on the Dress Coats. The 1885 Cavalry version (shown on the enlargement) uses the earlier 1872 Yellow trim color until 1887 when a darker yellow trim color was adopted. The Signal Service coat includes the Crossed Flags patch on the sleeves. Sergeant was the highest NCO rank in the Signal Service.
