The 1872 Infantry Dress Coat is shown above with optional First Sgt Chevrons and 20 year service stripes; On the above coat the lower stripe indicates that the first 5 year enlistment was spent in the Artillery (red stripe), the second 5 year enlistment was in the Cavalry during War (yellow with red underlay). The third and fourth stripes indicate an additional 10 years has been completed in the Infantry. |

The Foot soldier's dress coat features a longer skirt and different back trim style than the Mounted services dress coat. The skirt length is about 2" shorter than the Civil War era Frockcoats.
